CDA’s Special Needs Dance Program

This program was created solely for the special needs children of our community and to give them an outlet to move freely with creative movement, dance, and coordination skills.
We offer Alternative Pathways for all styles of dance. This class is located in a dance environment where the dance curriculum is  modified so the children could gain the most from the class in a stress-free environment.

  • Classes will vary depending on the student needs, but initially all classes will be tailored towards ballet, jazz, and creative movement.
  • Class attire should be anything the child can move in and remain comfortable.
  • Parents are asked to watch through the viewing window to ensure that the students achieve better social skills and can really focus on the instruction given, rather than having the parents come inside the classroom.
  • Students who remain in the class for a consecutive 3 months will participate in an “In House Demonstration Day” to showcase their newly found talents of performance!

TESTIMONY FROM A HAPPY PARENT OF OUR ALTERNATIVE PATHWAYS PROGRAM!
Hi Niki!  The Alternative Pathways Class was AMAZING!!!!  Ben and Kira had so much fun and Lindsey was awesome. The kids had such a great time and what a great opportunity it is. Thank you for having a program like this!  So often our kids aren’t ready for a typical class or team and it’s so great to have an option that still lets them participate and have these types of experiences.

After a year of searching for a sport or an outlet for my high functioning 6yr old autistic son, I finally found something he truly enjoys and has fun with. The special needs class that Ms. Lindsey teaches at Cumming Dance Academy is the right fit for him, and he loves going to Ms. Lindsey’s class each Saturday. The class is a combination of dance, stretch, instruction following, tumbling, and creative moves for the children.  In addition, the class helps with social skills by having the kids develop a dance “troupe”. And, it’s a great form of exercise as well.

Ms. Lindsey does a phenomenal job of coaching the children, and encouraging them to participate in the dance activities.  She has a very special touch for the children in this class.  Each child in the class has different abilities, and she will help them focus on their strengths and encourages participation of each. I commend her for her ability to allow each child to be an individual, while also helping them to feel as though they contribute to the overall class dynamic.

I’m thrilled to have found such a fantastic opportunity for my son. And I’m especially excited about the fact that my son now looks forward to every Saturday’s dance class. We finally found his forte, for now. And thanks to Ms. Lindsey for helping to bring this to light for him. I highly recommend any parent who is looking for an outlet for their special needs child to give Ms. Lindsey’s class a try–you won’t be disappointed!   VLM
